One person's thoughts may change the world
Another racial shoe has dropped. Donald Sterling, Real estate mogul, Los Angeles Clippers owner said some things that would normally not be heard in general conversation. You know, that conversation that you may say to a close associate, who thinks like you, and know you’re not a bigot, or anything that is associated with what you’re talking about.
So, let me translate some of the things that were said, and perhaps clear the air about how racist this guy was, or, perhaps given a pass because of his money, and his perceived power. So let’s take a look at a few key statements:
Whenever a mistress starts taking pictures with potential rivals to a “sugar daddy”, he always sheepishly asks an obvious question based upon her actions. Why are you hanging out? Why are you out with famous black men, disgracing yourself. The same sort of line you may see on match.com, you know that ethnicity of what the person wants: Caucasian, Arab, Jewish, Armenian, Hispanic, Yugoslavian, …. everyone but…BLACK. In fact, why isn’t that a section, everyone but a black person. Hmmmm…..
Well the minorities that he ‘associates’ with, of course they are. They are the same ones who play on his basketball team, coaches them, and he has power over. A billionaire would not have any interest in hanging with a minority like me, I’m not like him, and, I’m not fabulous in his eyes. He’s speaking in terms of what SOME wealth people usually look at things, a value. Certain blacks or minorities have value to him. How about the NAACP lifetime achievement award you virtually purchased by giving them donations, to which low and behold, they gave you a lifetime achievement award, and were about to double down on that error. They are fabulous too, right?
Really? and what’s that? If he’s talking about general prejudices races have towards each other, he may have a point. A racist point that is. And if you believe that crock of horse manure then stop reading now, and go have dinner with Mr. Sterling…
Now this is a tricky one. First he says why can’t she walk with black people in public, then he says that by doing so makes her stupid. Stupid because she is walking around with black people? Again, he seems to be talking in circles.
Classic sugar daddy line, you can screw who you want, just don’t put them in my face. When you spend a certain amount for tail ( mistress ), you expect a certain amount of respect. Because of his low opinion of black people, it adds salt to the wound in my opinion.
Now in a broad sense, this is a plantation talk, mixed with sugar daddy jealously. The plantation owner back in the day said the same thing: I feed them, cloth them, don’t work them too hard, give them a place to stay, and let them serve me my dinner and clean my clothes. Hell, I even have sex with their women when I get a chance…. The only difference is, the plantation owner has complete control, to which he then says:
Now, I may have more to say on this evolving issue, but the real disappointment is the Los Angeles branch of the NAACP. Now for a paltry 45,000.00 he bought your silence. He bought your award. He bought his legitimacy though you. Everyone has a number, you know, that number you will sell your soul for. Some have a higher number than others. But 45K, even after you already knew he had a track record of racial discrimination, that was settled out of court. WTF….
And now here comes the knee jerk reaction, force him to sell the team ( to which he will get a huge payday ), and get someone black to own it. All the famous names come a’callin’. Oprah, Magic, etc. That’s just as bad. I don’t want a black team owner because of his racial inequity(Sterling), but rather, by your success in the marketplace. The other owners will treat you with respect in public, but in the backroom behind closed doors, they will still say what they want to say:
Just what we need, Affirmative Action team ownership….
By the way, since the league is 80% black, you all should have made a subtle and tactful statement. All black players should have boycotted 1 playoff game, just to send a message. The same message that Tommie Smith on the gold medal platform, John Carlos on the bronze sent to the world back in 1968. That message is: THE HYPOCRISY OF RACISM IS NOT GOING TO BE TOLERATED, AT ANY LEVEL….REMEMBER THAT.
Peace Mickey Ficky….
BTW… I don’t have a problem with a groupie or the “other woman”, but how do you function ( you know like get up in the morning, and look at yourself while putting on makeup in the mirror) knowing deep down inside that the car you drive, the place you live in, the clothes you wear, the money you spend is provided to you by a 80 year old racist who thinks of you only as a commodity….Just sayin’…..
